Kenya’s Faith Cherotich produced a masterful display to win the women’s 3000m steeplechase gold at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. The 19-year-old stormed to victory in a season’s best time of 8:51.59, delivering Kenya another moment of glory on the global stage.

Cherotich, who had earlier qualified for the final after clocking 9:13.95 in the heats, held her composure against a strong field to secure her first senior world title. Her powerful finish in the last lap ensured Kenya retained its dominance in the steeplechase event.

Winfred Yavi of Bahrain settled for the silver medal, while Ethiopia’s Sembo Almayew took bronze to complete the podium. The win marks a significant step forward in Cherotich’s career, having previously finished with bronze at the Budapest 2023 World Championships.

With this triumph, Kenya continues to shine in Tokyo, adding to the country’s growing medal tally and reinforcing its status as a powerhouse in distance running. Fans across the nation and beyond have hailed Cherotich’s victory with pride and jubilation.
