KNCCI & NCPWD Seal MoU to Drive Disability Inclusion in Kenya’s Economy

On September 10, 2025, the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD). The partnership seeks to champion disability inclusion in Kenya’s business and economic development.
KNCCI President Dr. Erick Rutto said the agreement reinforces the Chamber’s commitment to ensuring that persons with disabilities (PWDs) are not left behind in economic growth.
According to Dr. Rutto, the collaboration will open opportunities for entrepreneurship, mentorship, and scaling up businesses, emphasizing that inclusive growth strengthens both communities and the nation.
“This MoU is a powerful statement by the Chamber on the organization's support for inclusivity in the business place for all. It is about creating sustainable economic value for businesses, communities, and the nation. An inclusive economy is a stronger economy, and this partnership paves the way for equal opportunity, innovation, and growth,” Dr. Rutto said.
NCPWD CEO Eva Njoroge welcomed the partnership, calling it timely as Kenya begins to implement the Persons with Disabilities Act of 2025.
She highlighted KNCCI’s wide reach and influence in business networks and policy advocacy as critical for rolling out inclusive strategies. She further pointed out that the MoU will strengthen capacity building, training, access to markets, and the creation of more accessible business environments.
“This partnership comes at a critical moment as we operationalize the PWD Act 2025. By combining KNCCI’s advocacy power and business reach with NCPWD’s technical expertise, we will not only enforce compliance but also unlock real opportunities for persons with disabilities to thrive as entrepreneurs, employees, and innovators,” Ms. Njoroge said.
The MoU outlines joint efforts in:
- Supporting entrepreneurship and mentorship for PWDs, women, and youth.
- Advocating for compliance with disability laws and the adoption of non-discriminatory business practices.
- Developing vocational and digital skills programmes to enhance employability.
- Influencing policy for equal opportunities in business and employment.
- Conducting research and awareness campaigns to inform and shape inclusive policies.
- Recognizing inclusive companies and auditing accessibility in businesses.
Through KNCCI’s county branches, PWDs will gain access to mentorship, training, and broader economic opportunities, while NCPWD will provide technical expertise in ensuring accessible, disability-compliant environments.
This landmark signing marks a pivotal step in creating an inclusive economy where Persons With Disabilities can thrive as entrepreneurs, innovators, and equal contributors to Kenya’s sustainable growth.
