Jairus Kipkogei, a 19-year-old raised in Uasin Gishu county, overcame significant obstacles to pursue higher education. His journey, riddled with financial challenges, took a remarkable turn due to a generous scholarship from President William Ruto.
Anticipating his Bachelor’s degree in Business Information Technology at Multimedia University, financial constraints threatened his dreams. Despite securing a spot at the university after a commendable B minus grade in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education in 2022, the burden of finances loomed large.
The media shed light on his predicament, unable to begin university despite securing a spot through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service.
Jairus’ arrival at MMU marked a significant moment, accompanied by his relieved mother, Dorcas Rotich. Thanks to President Ruto’s scholarship, he embarked on his academic journey with purpose and a vision for his future.
This scholarship covered not only tuition but also showcased President Ruto’s commitment to empowering young minds. It underlined the transformative power of education, affirming that every talented student, regardless of financial circumstances, deserves a chance.
In a touching gesture, Jairus received an electric bicycle, facilitating easy mobility on campus and relieving transportation expenses, enabling him to focus on his studies.
