U.S. President Donald Trump has confirmed that Israel has agreed to a 20-point ceasefire plan designed to end the ongoing war in Gaza. The announcement came after talks in Washington with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who pledged Israel’s full support for the proposal.
The plan outlines an immediate ceasefire, a hostage-prisoner exchange, and a phased withdrawal of Israeli troops from parts of Gaza. It also requires the disarmament of Hamas and the end of its governance role in the territory. In its place, a transitional Palestinian authority would be established under international oversight, supported by what Trump called a “Board of Peace.”
A major element of the agreement includes large-scale reconstruction and humanitarian assistance for Gaza, to be coordinated by international donors. Hamas members who disarm could be granted amnesty or safe passage, while those who reject the deal would face continued Israeli military pressure.
Despite Israel’s acceptance, Hamas has not yet approved the plan. Mediators from Qatar and Egypt have delivered the proposal to the group, which has promised to review it before issuing an official response. A Hamas official said the group had not received the full text at the time of the Washington announcement.
Trump and Netanyahu stressed that if Hamas rejects the ceasefire, Israel will continue military operations with full U.S. backing. International leaders, including Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, welcomed the initiative, but analysts warn that key demands—particularly Hamas’ disarmament—may prove difficult to implement.
