Today, as the world pauses for the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD), Signs Media is not just observing the day; the company is actively constructing a blueprint for a fully inclusive world.

The commitment is already tangible, with an impressive 60% of the employees being persons with disabilities, transforming an inclusive employment threshold into a daily reality.

The media platform holds governance systems accountable by inviting diverse guests to strengthen the call for action on inclusion.

SMKL’s standard-setting approach extends to different categories of content, with Sign Language Interpreting (SLI) services integrated into every production.

This isn't just a feature; it's a sustainable livelihood pathway for SLIs through the assistALL app. Furthermore, the company's digital doors are open through a fully accessible website designed for seamless navigation by all.

Recognizing that comprehensive inclusion requires collective effort, SMKL has actively sought partnerships, successfully collaborating with the British High Commission and Kenya ICT Action Network (KICTANet) on digitally accessible programs.

Disability mainstreaming efforts have also been productive, especially within the National Police Service and health sector, a move that called for trainings.

The reach has recently expanded into the financial sector through a partnership with Kenya Commercial Bank.

Ultimately, fostering disability-inclusive societies means constantly focusing on creating fair and accessible environments; this encompasses media, institutions, and technologies that are fundamentally inclusive and supportive of every individual.

As we celebrate this International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the message remains clear: our collective goal is to achieve unity, respect, and equal opportunity for all, transforming barriers into doorways.
