Interior PS Omollo: No Room for Violence in Political Spaces

Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has issued a stern warning over the rise of criminal gangs and politically motivated violence, saying such acts will not be tolerated anywhere in the country.
“Criminal gangs and political goonism are a national challenge and will not be tolerated,” Omollo said, underscoring the government’s tough stance on emerging security threats linked to political activity.
He emphasized that security agencies have been directed to take firm action against individuals and groups involved in organizing or facilitating violence during political gatherings and public events.
“Any individual or leader who engages in or facilitates such acts will be held accountable in accordance with the law,” he added, noting that accountability will extend beyond perpetrators to those who sponsor or enable such activities.
Omollo further reiterated that Kenyans have the constitutional right to freely express themselves and participate in political processes, but stressed that these freedoms must be exercised within the law.
He cautioned that the government will not allow criminal elements to infiltrate political spaces or be used to disrupt peace, warning that firm action will be taken against offenders.
According to the Interior Ministry, enhanced security operations and intelligence-led interventions are ongoing to dismantle organized groups accused of being used to intimidate opponents and disrupt order.
Security agencies have also been instructed to work closely with local administrators to identify hotspots of political violence and prevent escalation at the community level.
Omollo concluded by reaffirming the government’s commitment to maintaining national stability, stating that peace and security remain non-negotiable priorities for all Kenyans.
