The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is appealing to young Kenyans to come out in large numbers to register as voters and participate in the 2027 general election.
IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon, speaking during a forum, emphasized the critical role of youth in shaping the country's future and encouraged them to be part of the electoral process.
The call is part of IEBC's ongoing efforts to increase voter registration, particularly among the youth demographic, which has historically shown lower registration rates.
By registering and voting, the IEBC chair stated that young Kenyans can ensure their voices are heard and their interests are represented in the next government.
The commission's push is a crucial step in preparing the country for the upcoming polls and fostering a more inclusive and representative democracy.
According to the IEBC statistics, youth aged between 18 and 34 years accounted for 39.84 percent of registered voters in 2022, a drop of 5.27 percentage points from 2017.
Female youth registration fell by 7.75 percent in that period, while male youth registration dropped by 2.89 percent.
