The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) today launched its continuous mass voter registration exercise, aiming to enlist an estimated 6.3 million new voters before the 2027 General Elections.

The national drive, inaugurated in Kajiado County, targets young citizens who have attained the age of 18 since the 2017 elections, as well as any other eligible Kenyans not yet registered.

The IEBC is seeking to significantly increase the total number of registered voters from the 19 million recorded during the 2017 polls, a figure achieved after enlisting 10 million voters in that cycle, to more than 25 million by 2027.

The commission has set aside a budget of approximately eight billion shillings to facilitate the exercise. Registration will be conducted across the country at all 290 constituency IEBC registration centres and designated Huduma Centres, providing broad accessibility to potential voters.

According to the commission, the initiative is part of its mandate to maintain an updated and credible voter register, which is a cornerstone of transparent and inclusive electoral processes.

“This exercise is a vital step in ensuring that every eligible Kenyan has the opportunity to participate in shaping the country’s future through democratic elections. It is particularly directed towards young people who have recently attained 18 years, and all citizens who have not yet registered or need to update their voter information”, Chairperson Erastus Edung Ethekon said.

Services on offer during the exercise include fresh voter registration, correction or updating of voter details, transfer of registration to a different electoral area, and verification of voter information.
