The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has received the first consignment of ballot papers for the upcoming November 27 by-elections. IEBC Chair Erustus Ethekon oversaw the arrival of the shipment at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Wednesday morning.
According to the commission, the delivery consisted of 10 pallets containing ballot papers and statutory forms. The materials were printed by Inform Lykos (Hellas) SA in Greece at a total cost of Sh27 million, following a procurement process concluded earlier in the year.
The IEBC confirmed that the second and final batch—comprising 29 pallets—is expected to arrive on Thursday. The commission has invited representatives from all 51 participating political parties to witness the process as part of its transparency measures.
Ethekon stated that logistics plans are already in place, including airlifting ballot materials to remote and high-risk regions such as Banisa and Mandera due to security and accessibility concerns. He added that the commission is fully prepared to deliver credible by-elections across all affected constituencies and wards.
The November 27 by-elections will cover 23 seats countrywide, following vacancies declared earlier in the year.
