IEBC Chair inspects election materials a day before by elections
Preparations for tomorrow’s by-elections across 22 electoral areas have been completed, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has confirmed. Polling stations are set to open at 6am and close at 6pm, ensuring a full 12-hour voting window for registered voters.
The Commission has dispatched all election materials, including ballot papers, boxes, and security seals, to the designated polling stations. Remote and high-risk areas, particularly in counties like Turkana, will receive their materials via airlift to ensure timely availability.
IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon emphasized that all polling officials have been trained and sworn in to maintain the highest standards of electoral conduct. Officials have been reminded to uphold the oath of secrecy and to avoid any form of misconduct during the electoral process.
The by-elections cover both parliamentary and county assembly seats. Notable parliamentary contests include the Baringo Senate seat, and National Assembly seats in Magarini, Banissa, Mbeere North, Ugunja, Kasipul, and Malava constituencies.
County Assembly contests will take place in areas such as Chewani Ward in Galole, Fafi Ward in Garissa, Kariobangi North in Nairobi, Kisa East in Kakamega, Metkei in Elgeyo Marakwet, and Mumbuni North in Machakos, among others. Several wards in Nyamira, Turkana, and Narok counties will also go to the polls.
The Commission has cleared a total of 181 candidates to contest the various seats. Political parties and independent candidates are competing for both parliamentary and county assembly positions, with the contests expected to be closely monitored by observers.
Ethekon called on all voters to exercise their democratic rights peacefully and urged security agencies to maintain law and order throughout the election period. The IEBC assured Kenyans that the commission is fully prepared to manage the process efficiently and transparently.
