Asake

Tragedy struck Nigerian artist Asake’s concert at Nyayo Stadium on Saturday, December 20, resulting in the death of a young girl identified as Karen Lojore.

The victim was allegedly caught in a fatal stampede that erupted during a chaotic entry process at the stadium gates.

The event was reportedly plagued by logistical failures from the outset. Heavy rainfall combined with significant delays at the gate entry led to a volatile situation as thousands of fans waited to gain access.

According to eyewitness accounts, including that of journalist Immanuel Ndungu, the security setup featured only two lines-one for men and a longer one for women, which proved insufficient for the massive crowd. As frustration mounted and crowd control measures failed, a section of the crowd forced a gate open, leading to a surge that resulted in Lojore being trampled.

Lojore was rushed to the hospital but was tragically pronounced dead on arrival. Her body was subsequently moved to the City Mortuary.

Following the incident, a woman identified as Lojore’s mother has broken her silence on social media to demand answers. Posting via her Instagram account (@ami_brit), she shared a heart-wrenching plea for justice, emphasizing that her daughter was a law-abiding attendee who held a valid ticket for the event.

"Karen, why? What happened? You had that ticket. What happened to my child? Why her, why? Who is going to answer my questions? I want justice for my child," she posted.

The tragedy has sparked a wider conversation regarding event safety and the responsibility of organizers to manage large-scale crowds, especially under adverse weather conditions. While the concert was meant to be a highlight of the December holiday season, it has now left a family searching for closure and accountability
