Health CS Receives 5 Tonnes of Medical Supplies From India to Strengthen Ebola Preparedness

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale on Wednesday received a consignment of five tonnes of medical supplies and personal protective equipment (PPEs) donated by the Government of India at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), as Kenya steps up preparedness against the threat of Ebola Virus Disease.
The donation is part of Kenya's broader efforts to strengthen its emergency response systems amid heightened surveillance following Ebola outbreaks in neighbouring countries. The supplies are intended to enhance the protection of frontline healthcare workers and improve the country's capacity to respond to suspected cases.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Duale said the support from India reflects the strong bilateral partnership between the two countries in the health sector and will reinforce Kenya's disease preparedness and response capabilities.
The Health CS reaffirmed that Kenya has not recorded any confirmed Ebola cases but remains on high alert due to regional transmission risks and increased cross-border movement. He said the Ministry of Health continues to monitor the situation closely.
Kenya has intensified surveillance at all major points of entry, including airports and land border crossings, while also strengthening laboratory testing capacity, case detection systems, contact tracing and emergency response mechanisms.
The Ministry of Health has trained healthcare workers on Ebola case management and infection prevention, while designated isolation and treatment facilities have been prepared to manage any suspected or confirmed cases should they arise.
The latest donation complements previous support received from international partners, including the World Health Organization, which supplied Ebola personal protective equipment and technical assistance to strengthen Kenya's preparedness and protect frontline health workers.
Health officials have urged members of the public to remain vigilant, report any suspected symptoms promptly and continue observing public health measures, noting that early detection and rapid response remain critical in preventing the spread of the disease.
The Ministry of Health said it will continue working with development partners, county governments and regional health agencies to maintain a high level of preparedness and safeguard the country against potential Ebola outbreaks.
