Albert Ojwang Murder Case Adjourned To December 14, 2026

The murder case involving the death of teacher and blogger Albert Omondi Ojwang has been adjourned to December 14, 2026, with six suspects continuing to face charges of murder.
The accused include former Central Police Station Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Samson Talaam, who was in charge of the station at the time Ojwang died while in police custody in June 2025.
Ojwang was arrested in Homa Bay before being transferred to Central Police Station in Nairobi, where he was later found dead inside a police cell. His death sparked nationwide calls for accountability and reforms in police custody procedures.
The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) investigated the circumstances surrounding the death before the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) approved murder charges against the suspects.
The six accused persons have denied the allegations and are presumed innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the law.
The prosecution alleges that Ojwang died as a result of injuries sustained while in custody and has presented evidence it says links the accused persons to the events surrounding his death.
The suspects include police officers and civilians who the prosecution claims were connected to the circumstances leading to Ojwang’s death at Central Police Station.
The court has previously declined to grant bail to the accused, citing concerns raised by prosecutors over the seriousness of the charges and possible interference with witnesses.
Investigations into the case have also focused on evidence from the police station, including surveillance material that investigators said was critical in establishing what happened inside the facility.
A CCTV expert told the court that parts of the surveillance system at Central Police Station had issues, raising questions about the availability and handling of recorded footage after Ojwang’s death.
The case has attracted significant public attention because Ojwang died while under the custody of state security officers, putting police accountability under scrutiny.
The prosecution and defence teams are expected to continue presenting their respective cases as the trial progresses.
The court will resume hearing the matter on December 14, 2026, when further directions and proceedings are expected to take place.
The family of Albert Ojwang and human rights organisations have continued to follow the case closely, seeking justice and transparency throughout the trial.
