Government Spokesperson Addresses Arrests, Security Presence, and Kenya-Tanzania Relations

Government Spokesperson Hon. Mwaura today addressed several key issues, including recent arrests, security presence around the former Deputy President's residences, and the state of diplomatic relations between Kenya and Tanzania.
Hon. Mwaura clarified that recent arrests, most notably that of Member of Parliament Peter Salasya, were solely based on individual conduct and had no bearing on political affiliation.
He firmly dismissed allegations of political persecution as mere propaganda intended to mislead the public. "The law applies equally to all citizens, regardless of their political leanings," Hon. Mwaura asserted during a press briefing. "These arrests are a result of specific actions and alleged breaches of the law, not a targeted campaign against any political faction."
Addressing reports concerning an increased security presence at residences belonging to the former Deputy President, the spokesperson reiterated the government's commitment to enforcing the law without fear or favor.
He stated unequivocally that no individual, irrespective of their past or present political status or level of public support, is exempt from legal scrutiny. "The government has a responsibility to ensure the safety and security of all citizens and to uphold the rule of law," Hon. Mwaura explained. "Any security measures taken are in accordance with this mandate and should not be misconstrued as politically motivated."
Hon. Mwaura also sought to reassure the public regarding the diplomatic ties between Kenya and Tanzania. He affirmed that the relationship between the two East African nations remains strong and cordial. Addressing the recent deportation of opposition figure Martha Karua from Tanzania, the spokesperson emphasized that this was a sovereign decision made by the Tanzanian government and was not instigated or politically motivated by the Kenyan government.
"Kenya respects the sovereignty of Tanzania and its right to make decisions within its borders," Hon. Mwaura stated. "This isolated incident does not reflect any underlying tension in the strong and enduring relationship between our two countries."
