Government Data Intact After E-Citizen Cyber Attack, Confirms Owalo
ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo has confirmed that no government data was lost during the attempted cyber-attack on the eCitizen portal. He emphasized the portal's robust safeguard measures, ensuring secure access to various government services and payments for the public.
Speaking in Kisumu, Owalo acknowledged a brief interference with the system during a minor incident but reassured that no data was compromised and it remains safe. The government has implemented a comprehensive mitigation framework to uphold the integrity of the system.
“There was a small incident where the system was temporarily interfered with, but data was not interfered with. It is safe. “He said in Kisumu on Saturday.
Though the attack temporarily affected public access to over 5,000 government services on the eCitizen portal, the platform has now fully recovered and is operating at an optimal level.
During the opening of a digital laboratory at Ng’iya Girls High School in Siaya County, Owalo announced the government's commitment to fortifying the platform against future attacks as part of its digitalization agenda.
Additionally, the government plans to establish and activate 1,450 digital laboratories across the country, with a focus on targeting TVETs and High Schools, especially Girls' schools, to promote digital education and development.
