Gachagua Resigns, UDA Dismisses Move as "Futile"

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has officially resigned from President William Ruto's United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.
In a resignation letter addressed to the UDA secretary-general, which he also posted on his social media platforms, Gachagua expressed deep disillusionment with the party.
"By a copy of this letter, you are notified that I have officially resigned from the UDA Party with immediate effect. I have made this decision in knowledge of the ideals of the party we believed in, and so did millions of Kenyans, but now it has turned out to be the most dangerous political moment for the people and the Republic of Kenya in the retrogressive philosophy of an unfit class to govern our nation,” the former DP said.
Gachagua, in his resignation letter, alleged that President Ruto had deceived Kenyans during the election campaign, breaking promises that UDA would be founded on principles of justice, peace, freedom, and prosperity.
The former DP said his decision follows his realization that he no longer shares the same ideals with the ruling party.
However, the UDA party, while issuing a response to the former DP, referred to his move as "belated" and "futile."
In an official statement signed by UDA Secretary General Senator Hassan Omar Hassan on Monday, the party acknowledged receipt of Gachagua’s resignation letter.
“The UDA Party took note of the grounds of your impeachment in October last year. We moved with the stealth of national conscience to equally remove you as the Deputy Party Leader,” the statement read.
The party maintained that Gachagua’s resignation does not alter the status of his membership, which it says had already been effectively revoked through internal party processes.
