Fuel Prices Surge As EPRA Raises Petrol And Diesel Costs Nationwide

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced a fresh increase in fuel prices for the May–June 2026 pricing cycle, pushing up the cost of Super Petrol and Diesel while leaving kerosene unchanged.
The new prices take effect at midnight and will remain in force for 30 days, covering the next monthly review period.
Super Petrol will now retail at approximately Sh214 per litre, while Diesel will retail at about Sh242 per litre across major towns in the country.
EPRA confirmed that Super Petrol has increased by Sh16.65 per litre, while Diesel has risen by Sh46.29 per litre, marking one of the sharpest adjustments in recent months.
Kerosene prices have remained unchanged, offering slight relief to households that depend on it for cooking and lighting amid rising energy costs.
The regulator attributed the changes to higher landed costs of imported petroleum products influenced by global crude oil prices and shipping expenses.
Volatility in the international oil market continues to affect local pump prices, with fluctuating supply and demand patterns driving monthly adjustments.
Diesel has recorded the steepest increase, reflecting its strong demand in transport, logistics, and industrial operations.
Super Petrol has also continued its upward trend, adding pressure on private motorists and public transport operators.
Transport operators are expected to feel the impact most, with possible adjustments in fares and logistics charges likely in the coming days.
Consumers are also expected to experience indirect effects, as higher transport costs typically lead to increased prices of goods and essential commodities.
EPRA maintains that the monthly price reviews are necessary to reflect global market realities and ensure transparency in fuel pricing across the country.
