The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced a new fuel price adjustment that has seen petrol and diesel prices rise significantly across the country in the latest monthly review cycle.

According to the new pricing schedule, Super Petrol has increased by Ksh 28.69 per litre, while Diesel has recorded a sharper rise of Ksh 40.30 per litre, marking one of the biggest upward adjustments in recent months.

Following the revision, the maximum retail price for Super Petrol in Nairobi now stands at Ksh 206.97 per litre, while Diesel is retailing at Ksh 206.84 per litre, reflecting the updated EPRA pricing formula.

The regulator stated that the changes are influenced by global crude oil prices, the performance of the Kenyan shilling against the US dollar, and increased landing costs, all of which feed into the monthly review mechanism.

Diesel, which is widely used in transport, agriculture, and manufacturing, has seen a steeper rise compared to petrol, raising concerns over possible ripple effects on commodity prices and transport fares.

Kerosene prices have remained relatively stable in the latest review, offering some relief to households that rely on it for cooking and lighting, especially in lower-income areas.

EPRA conducts monthly fuel price reviews in line with its mandate to ensure that retail prices reflect the actual cost of importing and distributing petroleum products in Kenya.

The latest increase is expected to place additional pressure on the cost of living, with transport operators likely to adjust fares in response to higher operational costs.

Analysts note that fluctuations in global oil markets and exchange rates continue to be key drivers of fuel price instability in Kenya, making future adjustments highly dependent on international trends.

The new prices take effect immediately and will remain in place until the next EPRA monthly review, when further adjustments may be announced depending on market conditions.
