A French labour court in Paris has ordered Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) to pay former striker Kylian Mbappé €60 million (£52.5 million) in unpaid wages and bonuses. The ruling covers payments from April to June 2024, as well as contractual bonuses recognised by the French Professional Football League, marking a partial resolution to a high-profile legal dispute between the club and the Real Madrid star.
The case arose after Mbappé left PSG on a free transfer in 2024, claiming the club had failed to meet its contractual obligations. PSG argued that the player had waived his right to the payments, but the court rejected this claim and dismissed some additional allegations, including moral harassment and other contract breaches.
PSG has confirmed it will comply with the court’s ruling but reserves the right to appeal the decision. Club officials emphasized that they remain committed to upholding contractual agreements while also exploring all legal avenues available to challenge aspects of the judgment.
Mbappé and his legal team welcomed the decision, calling it a victory for player rights and an affirmation that contractual and labour laws apply equally to footballers and clubs. They said the ruling ensures that professional players are protected from unpaid wages and reinforces accountability within elite football.
While the €60 million payout resolves part of the dispute, legal experts note that further appeals or additional claims could extend the proceedings. Nevertheless, the ruling represents a significant moment in one of football’s most prominent contract battles, setting a potential precedent for future disputes involving top-tier players and their clubs.
