Atlético Madrid are reportedly moving closer to completing a deal for Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva, who is set to become a free agent when his contract expires at the end of the 2025/26 season.
According to multiple transfer reports, including information shared by journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu, negotiations between Atlético Madrid and Silva’s camp are progressing well, with an agreement increasingly seen as close—though not yet finalized.
The 31-year-old Portuguese international has already confirmed he will leave Manchester City after a highly successful spell at the club, where he has won multiple Premier League titles and a UEFA Champions League trophy, becoming one of Pep Guardiola’s most trusted players.
Atlético Madrid are understood to view Silva as a key midfield target as they prepare for possible squad changes, with Diego Simeone valuing his versatility, tactical intelligence, and leadership experience at the highest level.
Reports from Spain suggest Atlético have tabled a long-term contract proposal, with discussions focusing on salary structure and bonuses, which remain the main hurdle due to Silva’s high wage expectations.
Despite being available on a free transfer, the deal is still considered financially significant because of signing-on fees and salary demands, with Atlético working to keep the structure within their wage limits.
Other European clubs, including Barcelona, Juventus, and Saudi Pro League sides, have also been linked with Silva, but current reports indicate Atlético are among the front-runners.
Silva is said to be open to continuing his career in a competitive European league, and La Liga is viewed as a strong potential destination given his style of play and adaptability.
While optimism is growing in Madrid, sources stress that no official agreement has been signed yet, and competition from other clubs could still influence the final outcome.
If completed, the move would represent one of Atlético Madrid’s biggest free-transfer signings in recent years and a major addition to Simeone’s midfield ahead of the 2026/27 season.
