The late Dr. Enock Kibunguchy

Former Likuyani Member of Parliament Enock Wamalwa Kibunguchy has passed away while receiving treatment at a local health facility, his family confirmed. The former legislator died on Tuesday morning, prompting an outpouring of grief from political leaders and residents across Kakamega County and the wider western region.

Kibunguchy had been unwell for a short period before his death, with family members revealing that he was receiving treatment for stomach complications. Although the precise cause of death is yet to be officially confirmed, relatives have requested a thorough investigation and post-mortem to establish the circumstances surrounding his passing.

He served as the founding Member of Parliament for Likuyani Constituency, holding office from 2013 to 2017 and 2017 to 2022, and was widely recognized for his efforts to improve education, infrastructure, and social services in the area. His contributions left a lasting impact on development projects and community welfare in the constituency.

Prior to representing Likuyani, Kibunguchy served as Lugari MP from 2003 to 2007, making his political career span nearly two decades. Throughout his tenure, he earned a reputation as a grassroots leader with strong connections to his constituents.

Following his death, leaders across the political spectrum have paid tribute to Kibunguchy, describing him as a dedicated public servant who worked tirelessly for the people he represented. Local residents also expressed deep sorrow at the loss of a leader they regarded as approachable and committed.

Kibunguchy lost his parliamentary seat in the 2022 general election to Innocent Mugabe but had previously indicated intentions to return to politics ahead of the 2027 elections. His death marks the end of a long-standing political career and leaves a significant void in western Kenya’s political landscape.
