In a bold move and significant twist of events, Kenya's former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has unveiled his new and long-awaited political party. During the launch, Gachagua promised to uphold democracy and listen to the people of Kenya.

Gachagua launched his party with green, brown, and white as its official colors and adopted the slogan "Skiza Wakenya". He named it the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP). The former Deputy President, who recently resigned from the ruling party months after his impeachment, reaffirmed his commitment to listening to the people of Kenya, saying that Kenyans deserve to be heard.

"We believe that all citizens must be listened to by their leaders. Listening should not be for the sake of it—it must be deliberate, it must have a plan, it must have a purpose, and it must be sustainable. As the party leader of DCP, I commit that I will listen to the people of Kenya and live up to their aspirations," said Gachagua, emphasizing that at no point will Kenyans be left behind by the party.

He also noted that his party is democratic and open to all. The former Deputy President said that DCP is not just an ordinary party but a political ideology for every Kenyan, regardless of their walk of life. According to Gachagua, DCP is the biggest political movement since 1963. He also mentioned that the party will draft its manifesto later this year and affirmed that the party will uphold human rights.

"We, the DCP, are committed to the respect of human rights and freedoms, integrity in leadership, the rule of law, social justice and fairness, devolution of power, unity in diversity, accountability, and transparency," highlighted Gachagua, adding that good governance will be the party's top priority.

Gachagua said he will dedicate the remaining two years leading up to the 2027 elections to listening to the people, with the goal of building one of the most commendable political movements since independence. The launch of Gachagua's political party is expected to bring major change to Kenya's political landscape and wield significant influence in the 2027 elections.
