At least five people have been killed following a fatal road accident involving a truck and a matatu along the busy Nairobi–Nakuru Highway.
The crash occurred in the Kikopey area near Gilgil in Nakuru County after a truck reportedly lost control and rammed into the public service vehicle, causing extensive damage.
Police said preliminary investigations indicate the accident was caused by brake failure on the truck, which was travelling at high speed before the collision.
Six other passengers sustained serious injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention. Their condition was reported to be stable as of the latest update.
The matatu, which was headed towards western Kenya, was allegedly hit from behind, leaving it badly crushed and trapping several passengers inside.
Emergency responders, including police officers and good Samaritans, arrived at the scene to assist in rescue operations and manage traffic along the highway, which was temporarily disrupted.
The bodies of the deceased have since been moved to the mortuary as investigations continue, with authorities urging motorists to exercise caution and ensure their vehicles are in good mechanical condition, especially on major highways.
