Five suspected drug traffickers have been arrested following coordinated anti-narcotics operations in Mombasa, Kitengela and Busia that led to the recovery of cannabis sativa valued at more than Sh12 million.

The operations, conducted by anti-narcotics detectives and other security agencies, formed part of an intensified nationwide campaign targeting organised drug trafficking networks and supply chains operating across multiple counties.

Investigators said the raids were intelligence-led and focused on locations suspected to be used for storage, transit and distribution of narcotic substances. Officers moved simultaneously to prevent suspects from relocating the drugs or escaping arrest.

In Mombasa, detectives raided premises believed to be linked to illegal drug activities and recovered large quantities of cannabis packaged for movement and sale. Authorities indicated that the coastal region remains under close monitoring due to its importance as a transport and commercial corridor.

Additional operations in Kitengela led to the recovery of more cannabis and the arrest of individuals suspected of participating in distribution networks serving urban and peri-urban markets.

In Busia, investigators pursued suspected cross-border trafficking links as part of efforts to disrupt movement of narcotics through key transit routes.

Police confirmed that a total of five suspects were taken into custody during the coordinated crackdown and are expected to undergo processing before being presented in court.

Authorities also recovered materials believed to be associated with packaging and transportation of the narcotics as investigations expanded beyond the initial arrests.

The seized cannabis has been secured as evidence while investigators continue documenting exhibits and conducting further analysis to establish the full scale of the operation.

Detectives said they are pursuing additional leads to determine whether the suspects are connected to larger trafficking syndicates operating across the country.

Security agencies noted that intelligence gathering and inter-agency coordination remain central to ongoing anti-drug operations aimed at dismantling organised criminal networks.

The latest arrests add to a growing series of anti-narcotics operations as authorities maintain pressure on trafficking routes and seek to reduce the circulation of illegal drugs across Kenya.
