Abdi Aidid Ali
The family of Nairobi businessman Abdi Aidid Ali has filed a case in court seeking orders compelling authorities to produce him dead or alive within 24 hours following his alleged abduction in Shauri Moyo.
According to relatives, the businessman was seized by a group of armed men on the evening of March 7 in the Shauri Moyo area of Nairobi while heading to evening prayers during the holy month of Ramadan.
Witnesses told the family that several masked men travelling in two vehicles intercepted his car and forcefully took him away, leaving his vehicle behind at the scene.
The family claims the suspected abductors appeared to be security officers as they were reportedly dressed in jungle-green uniforms and carried firearms, raising suspicion that state agents could have been involved.
Through their lawyers, the relatives have now moved to the High Court of Kenya seeking orders compelling the police to present the businessman in court or disclose his whereabouts.
They argue that despite reporting the matter to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and several police stations, no information has been provided regarding whether he is in custody.
The petition states that holding a person without presenting them before a court violates constitutional protections on liberty and due process.
Family members say the continued uncertainty about his fate has caused them immense distress as they wait for authorities to clarify what happened and ensure his safety.
