Executive, Judiciary Agree On Budget Boost to Tackle Backlogs, Corruption

President William Ruto and Chief Justice Martha Koome on Monday committed to bolster the Judiciary's effectiveness through a substantial budget increase.
The enhanced funding is set to prioritize streamlining service delivery, tackling judicial backlogs, and equipping the court system to effectively combat corruption.
This will include the recruitment of 36 judges, with 25 filling crucial vacancies in the High Court and 11 strengthening the Court of Appeal.
According to a statement by State House spokesman Hussein Mohammed, the budget will also facilitate the judiciary's transport needs.
The meeting at the state house was specifically to end the stand-off between the Executive and Judiciary over corruption claims against judges.
The Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang'ula, Deputy CJ Philomena Mwilu and Attorney General Justin Muturi were also part of the meeting.
The Head of State in the previous weeks had made remarks accusing the Judiciary of teaming up with cartels to stall his legacy projects which had elicited reactions from several associations.
To address the President's criticisms, the Judiciary requested an audience to delve into the origin of his complaints, a move which was warmly welcomed by the President.
