Sisi kwa sisi movement leader Erick Omondi

Comedian and activist Eric Omondi successfully completed the first leg of his Nairobi‑to‑Mombasa walk on Tuesday, covering an estimated 68 kilometres from Nairobi into Machakos County. Medics and support teams attended to him along the route as he paused after the grueling stage.

The walk forms part of Omondi’s “Walk of Love” campaign, aimed at raising funds for the Sisi Kwa Sisi Help and Rescue Centre. The centre is planned to include medical services, ambulances, a donation warehouse, and a free secondary school for underprivileged youth.

Omondi and his team, known as Team Sisi Kwa Sisi, have previously mobilised resources for various social causes, including medical emergencies and education support, relying heavily on community contributions.

During the first day, Omondi walked through intense heat and heavy traffic along Mombasa Road, drawing attention from residents and passersby. Support crews monitored his condition to ensure he remained safe throughout the journey.

Several Kenyan celebrities joined him at the launch to amplify the campaign, and some are expected to accompany sections of the route over the coming days.

The walk is scheduled to span four days, with participants covering long distances daily, aiming to reach Mama Ngina Waterfront Park in Mombasa on Valentine’s Day for a community celebration.

Social media has been active with updates on Omondi’s progress, including photos and videos from the route. Many Kenyans have praised the initiative, calling it inspirational and a powerful way to highlight charitable causes.

Some critics have questioned the sustainability of high-profile public events, urging organisers to ensure long-term follow-through for the rescue centre and related services.

Organisers have reassured the public that detailed planning for the Sisi Kwa Sisi centre is ongoing and that contributions will be carefully managed to support vulnerable communities.

As Omondi rests and prepares for the next leg toward Kitui and further southeast, supporters are encouraged to continue contributing and engaging with the campaign to help achieve its broader humanitarian goals.
