Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Kwale County are set to benefit from enhanced mobility and care following a major donation by the ANNICK FOR KENYA Community-Based Organization.
The CBO, led by CEO Mr. Eddy Van Uytsel, handed over 30 modern recliner beds, 11 wheelchairs, and five walking aids to Kwale Sub-County Hospital in Matuga Sub-County, marking a significant investment in accessible healthcare.
Governor Fatuma Achani, who received the equipment, said the support will go a long way in improving the dignity and comfort of patients, particularly those with physical disabilities.
“We are grateful for this timely donation. These beds and mobility aids will ease the burden on our healthcare staff and improve patient comfort, especially in critical care units,” she noted.
Deputy Governor Josphat Chirema Kombo affirmed the county’s commitment to a responsive health system that accommodates the needs of all, including PWDs.
Tsimba Golini Ward MCA Mwachuo Mwaboza called the gesture “a statement of commitment to human dignity,” noting the growing number of patients in need of assistive devices.
Representing ANNICK FOR KENYA, Kwale County Red Cross Coordinator Mohammed Mwahenzi emphasized the CBO’s continued mission to uplift vulnerable communities across the region.
Governor Achani confirmed that the wheelchairs and walking aids will be prioritized for patients with mobility challenges, while recliner beds will be distributed to maternity and outpatient units.
The donation complements ongoing health investments in Kwale, where over 178 facilities have been constructed and more than 1,800 health workers deployed.
