"We Won't Leave Government": Kindiki Rallies Mt. Kenya Region at Meru Dairy Field Day

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki outlined plans to elevate Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital to a Level 6 facility, comparable to Kenyatta National Hospital.
He emphasized that Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital serves a wide regional catchment area beyond Meru County itself. Kindiki pointed out that patients travel from neighboring counties, saying,
"Watu wa Tharakanithi wanakuja hapa... Watu wa Isiolo wanakuja hapa... Watu wa Laikipia... Watu wa Kitui... Marsabit... Embu wanakuja hapa. Kwa hivyo we wanted to be a center of medical excellence".
Addressing critical specialized medical needs, Kindiki explained that upgrading local health infrastructure ensures residents do not have to travel to Nairobi for major procedures. He stated,
"Hakuna haja sasa kama uko na ngonjwa wa moyo wa kanser wa figo matibabu itakuwa hapa... ndio watu wa area hii wachane na safari ya kwenda kutafuta matibabu Nairobi".
Addressing external political commentators, Kindiki criticized figures who deliver lengthy lectures across the country without offering practical local solutions.
He remarked, "Sio ati ni Wageni ni watu tunajua... wanatupatia lecture mrefu inatoka hapa inaifika South Africa... Indian Ocean na inafika Atlantic Ocean," questioning the tangible value of these speeches to local farmers.
Focusing on performance accountability ahead of upcoming political seasons, Kindiki urged residents to challenge visiting leaders on their development track record.
He asserted, "Wakiifika hapa kabla waseme ile mambo wanasema, muwaulize siku ile mlikuwa mawaziri, siku ile mlikuwa manaibu wa rais... mlitufanyia hapa ya kusaidia mkulima wa maziwa?"
The Deputy President stressed the historical and economic unity of the region's communities. He highlighted their shared identity by declaring, "Nikiwa mmoja wa wale ambao wakenya ambao wanatoka pande hii sisi ni jamii moja... sisi tumekuwa jamii moja tangu jadi siku ya kupigania uhuru wa taifa la Kenya".
Kindiki reiterated that the region has consistently rallied behind successive national governments to build political and economic influence.
"Ile serikali ya kwanza ya mheshimiwa mzee Jomo Kenyatta tulikuwa pamoja... vile vile serikali ya mzee Kibaki... Hata siku ile Uhuru Kenyatta amekuwa rais wetu tumeenda pamoja. Serikali zote tumesimama pamoja".
Refusing to consider moving into the opposition, Kindiki argued that abandoning a government they helped form makes no sense.
He used a construction analogy: "Hatuwezi kutoka katika serikali ambayo tumetafuta... You don't build a house complete itish it and then you abandon it alafu unaenda kuishi msituni... mimi siwezi kufanya hiyo kitu".
Kindiki pledged to safeguard the region’s stake in government and ensure ongoing collaboration with President William Ruto.
He asserted, "Serikali tuliitafuta kwa jasho na bidii tutang'ang'ana hapo tulinde hii serikali na tutetee maslahi wetu tukiwa hii serikali kwa sababu hii ni serikali yetu".
He noted that shifting cabinet dynamics do not change the core identity or governance structure of the current administration.
"Serikali haiwezi kuwa mzuri wakati deputy president anatoka hapa pande hii alafu inakuwa mbaya deputy president akitoka pande hii ingine... the same government cannot be bad".
Looking ahead to the next election cycle, Kindiki stressed that leadership will be judged strictly on completed projects and service delivery.
"Hakuna uongozi ambao hautapimwa na ile kazi ambayo wamefanya... Next year ni siku ya siasa. Si Rais Ruto atafika hapa kutafuta tu tam? Si atasema ile mambo ametufanyia?"
Kindiki called on national and local officials to coordinate swiftly to finish critical projects. He noted, "Mimi vile vile kwa sababu mimi ni deputy rais niko na kazi ya kusaidia rais... hizo miradi iharakishwe tukishirikiana na hawa ndugu zangu mawaziri, PSs, wabunge, governor, MCAs".
He questioned the credibility of veteran politicians advocating for change despite limited local infrastructure outcomes during their long tenures.
"Mtu amekuwwa kiongozi karibu nusu kame almost half a century in leadership... Lami iko 300 km kutoka kwake nyumbani ati huyo ndiye ataleta lami ya Meru na Tharakanithi?"
Kindiki publicly praised former Governor Kiraitu Murungi for his stature and contributions to the region. He appealed,
"Wewe mzee Kiraitu ndugu yangu mkubwa... because of your stature as the most successful son of the Ameru... usikubali mtu yeyote hapa fireman usikubali mtu yeyote mimi kupotosha hawa wananchi watoke kwa serikali".
Kindiki recalled his legal background in defending key leaders during the International Criminal Court (ICC) cases. He reminded the audience,
"Sisi tulimuunga mkono mwa m siku alikuwa na kesi kule Heg wakiwa na naibu wake wa siku hiyo Rais Ruto. Mimi nilikuwa wa wale mawakili ambao tulikazana mpaka akarudi hapa Kenya".
Representing President William Ruto in Mitunguu, South Imenti Constituency, Meru County, Kindiki presided over the official commissioning of Phase 1 of the Meru Maziwa Millers Feed Mill. The facility was established at a total cost of 500 million shillings, supported by 200 million shillings from the Government of Kenya.
Kindiki explained that the new feed mill is designed to produce subsidized, high-quality dairy cow feeds to significantly reduce production expenses for farmers. He noted that the plant aims to ensure increased profit margins for milk farmers across the region.
Highlighting the growth of the regional agricultural sector during the 11th Annual Meru Dairy Farmers Field Day at ASK Gitoro Showground, Kindiki emphasized that the Meru Central Dairy Cooperative Union is today the largest producer of processed milk in Africa, boasting a milk processing capacity of 670,000 litres per day.
