"Kenyans Are Ready for Change": Sifuna Rallies Youth Against Taxation and Corruption

In a spirited address to residents at Mois Bridge during the ongoing Linda Mwananchi tour in Trans Nzoia County, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna launched a scathing political attack on the current administration, declaring that Western Kenya and surrounding regions have withdrawn their political backing for President William Ruto.
Recalling his past political visits alongside former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Sifuna noted that he previously toured the country serving in key positions, including Secretary-General of the ODM party and Senate Deputy Minority Whip. However, he claimed that internal political betrayals led to a faction stripping away those leadership roles shortly after the passing of senior leaders, leaving him to rebuild his political journey under the Linda Mwananchi banner.
Expressing strong confidence in his movement's resilience, Sifuna stated that despite losing key party positions, he believes justice and political restoration will ultimately prevail. He told the crowd that those who took over those positions will eventually be held accountable by the electorate as his movement continues to mobilize nationwide.
Focusing his criticism on the executive, Sifuna argued that the political leadership currently operating from State House must be cleaned up through democratic means. He stressed that the Linda Mwananchi initiative has traversed the entire nation—from the Coast in Mwashako, through Kajiado, Narok, Nakuru, and up to Nyandarua and Ol Kalou—gathering grassroot consensus that voters are ready for political change.
Addressing the crowd in Mois Bridge, the vocal politician declared that local support for "Kasongo"—a political reference widely understood to mean President William Ruto—has completely evaporated. He engaged the audience directly, asking whether any remaining support for the administration existed in key local centers, including the market centers, farms, and local businesses like Rimas Cakes.
The enthusiastic crowd responded with loud cheers, affirming Sifuna’s declarations that Mois Bridge and the broader Trans Nzoia region had shifted away from the ruling coalition. Sifuna emphasized that while citizens hold no personal hatred toward President Ruto, his administration’s economic policies and actions have inflicted severe hardship on ordinary Kenyans.
Highlighting the dire economic situation, Sifuna pointed to widespread financial distress among citizens, citing stagnant healthcare services, high taxation, and the loss of youth livelihood opportunities. He decried the violent crackdown on youth demanding better governance, insisting that young Kenyans deserve employment, quality education, and the dignity to support their families rather than facing state violence.
Acknowledging the challenge of unseating an incumbent president, Sifuna called on the opposition and all progressive forces to unite under a single presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 General Election. He urged political leaders to set aside personal differences, emphasizing that a fragmented opposition would only prolong the economic struggles faced by the public.
To demonstrate citizen engagement and readiness for political action, Sifuna invited local residents onto the stage to confirm their voter registration status. Young voters, including local residents like Felix Kibot, shared their readiness to participate in the upcoming elections, reinforcing the movement’s push to ensure maximum voter turnout.
Sifuna also engaged women and youth groups in the crowd, warning them against financial inducements or cheap political ploys aimed at compromising their voting choices. He stressed that minor monetary handouts could not address the long-term structural economic problems, corruption, and systemic failures facing ordinary citizens.
The Senator went on to promote the official Linda Mwananchi contribution channels, urging supporters to join the fundraising and movement initiatives via Paybill 33049. He called on citizens to support the political movement directly to help sustain anti-corruption campaigns and grassroots mobilization effort across all counties.
Concluding his address, Sifuna reiterated that the Linda Mwananchi movement remains dedicated to ending corruption and protecting the rights of ordinary Kenyans. He called on the residents of Mois Bridge and Trans Nzoia to stand firm, stay vigilant, and support the broader political realignment aimed at delivering economic relief and accountable leadership.
