The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has announced that initial findings into the death of former Cabinet Minister and veteran politician Cyrus Jirongo point to a road traffic accident rather than any criminal activity. Following the tragedy on the night of December 13, 2025, at the Karai area along the Nakuru–Nairobi Highway, a specialized multi-agency team was dispatched to the scene. In a formal update, the agency stated, “Based on the evidence gathered and analysed to date, the incident appears to be a road traffic accident, with no indications of foul play.”

The investigation involved homicide detectives, crime researchers, and forensic specialists who processed the scene and reviewed CCTV footage from a nearby petrol station.

Detectives also interviewed various witnesses, including the crew of the Climax bus involved and several high-profile politicians who were with Jirongo earlier that evening.

While the case is being finalized, the DCI urged the public to remain calm, saying, “The DCI urges the public and political leaders to avoid speculation that could prejudice the investigations or cause public anxiety.”

Once the remaining forensic processes are finished, the file will be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions to decide on potential charges against the bus driver. Reaffirming their dedication to the truth, the DCI noted, “Any person who possesses information that they believe may assist the ongoing investigations is encouraged to come forward,” as they continue their commitment to “impartial, thorough and expeditious investigations in accordance with the law.”
