Five suspected gang members linked to a string of violent crimes in Nakuru County have been arrested in a major police operation.

In a statement shared via their official social media platforms, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed the arrest and the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, serial number 18916, loaded with three rounds of ammunition. The weapon was discovered hidden in dry grass near a residential house in the Rhoda area.

The operation, led by detectives from the DCI’s OperationAction Team and Crime Research Bureau, was conducted in coordination with local officers.

The gang is accused of murdering a police officer and injuring two others during a patrol ambush on June 1st. In another gruesome incident, they reportedly attacked and killed a 4-year-old shopkeeper in Soilo after robbing him.

Those arrested are William Nywhili Rioba, Nyahili Nyamuhaga Magige, Emmanuel Muita Muita, Catherine Nkatha Zakayo, and Peter Chacha. They are scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday, June 3.

The operations seek to bring to an end the reign of terror and rid the streets of armed criminals.” Reads the DCI statement in part.

Several anti-robbery teams have since been deployed across Nakuru and beyond, targeting known gang networks.
