Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested three suspects in connection with the violent assault on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi in Kisumu County.
The attack occurred on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at Java House, West End Mall, where the senator was confronted and physically assaulted by a group of unidentified individuals.
CCTV footage from the restaurant reportedly captured the confrontation, showing multiple attackers assaulting Osotsi. Authorities say the video is a key piece of evidence in the ongoing investigation.
Osotsi sustained serious injuries during the attack and was initially treated at a medical facility in Kisumu before being airlifted to Nairobi for specialized medical care.
The DCI launched an immediate investigation following the incident, deploying detectives to gather evidence and identify the suspects involved.
On Thursday, April 9, 2026, the DCI announced that three suspects had been apprehended in connection with the assault.
The arrested individuals are identified as Carlos Owiti, alias Kalonje, 24, from Nyalenda, Kisumu; Eric Otieno, alias Dude, 39, from Manyatta, Kisumu; and Vincent Odhiambo, alias Tinga, 27, also from Nyalenda, Kisumu.
The suspects are currently in police custody and are being processed for arraignment in court. The authorities confirmed that additional suspects are still being pursued.
Political leaders and civic figures have condemned the attack, describing it as “cowardly” and a serious threat to democratic norms and the rule of law.
The motive behind the assault remains unclear, and forensic analysis of CCTV footage is ongoing to establish the sequence of events and identify other perpetrators.
The DCI has urged the public to remain calm and provide any information that could assist in apprehending all individuals involved in the attack.
Authorities stress that the investigation is active, and all suspects will face legal proceedings once sufficient evidence has been collected.
