CS Machogu Directs Opening Of KUCCPS Portal
The 2022 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) students who are eligible can now access the university application portal and apply for various courses.
This is after Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu on Wednesday directed Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) to open the portal.
According to the education ministry Boss, KUCCPS will publish fee structures for all programmes in the institutions to guide students in making choices based on income levels, course choices, and institution selection.
Machogu said 2022 KCSE students who are eligible for the degree program are those who scored C+ and above adding that the rest would apply for various courses offered in colleges and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.
Further, the CS said the students will enjoy a new funding model that was announced by President William Ruto set to be awarded in two tiers.
CS Machogu told the students that upon being selected, they will be required to apply for a government scholarship from the University Fund.
They will also have the opportunity to apply for loans from Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) which will be allocated using a full-proof system that will determine the amount to be awarded.
However, the CS said government scholarships will only be eligible to students who will join public universities and not those who opt for private universities.
"I wish to reiterate that students who will select courses in Public Universities will be eligible to access both the Government scholarships and loans, while those who will select Private Universities will be eligible for Government loans only," said CS Machogu.
"The whole idea is premised on the fact each student should be treated on the level of their need and that no deserving student should be denied an opportunity to acquire higher education and training in the institution of their choice," he added.
The Ministry of Education has partnered with Huduma Secretariat to have students apply for the programmes at all 52 Huduma centers.
