President Trump says he is inviting Lebanon’s President Aoun and Israel’s Prime Minister Netanyahu to the White House for the first talks between Israel and Lebanon since 1983.

Donald Trump has announced that Israel and Lebanon have agreed to a temporary ceasefire lasting 10 days, in a development he described as part of ongoing diplomatic efforts to calm tensions in the region.

The announcement was made through his Truth Social platform, where he said the truce had been accepted by both sides following recent high-level discussions.

According to the statement, the ceasefire is expected to begin at midnight on Thursday, corresponding to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time (22:00 BST).

The proposed pause in hostilities is intended to create space for further negotiations aimed at reducing cross-border violence and stabilising the situation along the Israel–Lebanon frontier.

Trump said the agreement followed contacts involving Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese leadership, though detailed terms of the arrangement were not immediately made public.

The announcement did not provide clarity on enforcement mechanisms or whether international monitors would be involved in overseeing compliance.

Israeli authorities had not issued an immediate formal confirmation of the ceasefire at the time the claim was made public.

Lebanese officials also had not publicly verified the details, leaving aspects of the agreement unconfirmed by the parties directly involved.

The development comes amid heightened regional tensions and intermittent exchanges of fire across the Israel–Lebanon border in recent months.

Diplomatic efforts led by the United States and other international actors have been ongoing in attempts to prevent further escalation.

Analysts note that short-term truces in the region have previously been fragile, often dependent on rapid follow-up negotiations and mutual adherence by both sides.

The announcement has already drawn international attention, with observers awaiting official statements from key regional governments to confirm implementation.

The situation remains fluid, with further updates expected as diplomatic channels continue to engage on the details and durability of the proposed ceasefire.
