The Catherine Omanyo Foundation and Scoon Kenya have donated wheelchairs to persons with disabilities in Busia County.

The wheelchairs were donated to 100 people with disabilities, including Rebecca Amusugutu and Brian Otieno, who has been using a wheelbarrow to move around for the past 23 years.

The foundation said the donation was aimed at helping people with disabilities to move around more easily and have greater access to opportunities.

“Disability is not about incapability, but about the doors that were shut for a long time,” said Catherine Omanyo, the founder of the foundation. “We want to help people with disabilities to open those doors and live their lives to the fullest.”

The foundation also said it would continue to support people with disabilities in other ways, such as by providing scholarships to girls who have dropped out of school and by providing financial assistance to widows and the elderly.

“We believe that people with disabilities have potential,” said Omanyo. “We want to help them to realize their potential and to contribute to society.”

The foundation has put in place measures to ensure that the wheelchairs are distributed fairly and that they are properly maintained. The wheelchairs will be donated to people with disabilities every three months.

The foundation's donation has been welcomed by people with disabilities and their families. They say the wheelchairs will make a big difference in their lives.

“I am so grateful for the wheelchair,” said Rebecca Amusugutu. “It will make it much easier for me to get around and to do my daily activities.”

“I have been using a wheelbarrow to move around for the past 23 years,” said Brian Otieno. “The wheelchair will make my life much easier.”

The foundation's donation is a reminder that people with disabilities are just as capable as anyone else. They deserve to have the same opportunities and to be treated with respect.
