Busia Governor Paul Otuoma

Busia Governor Paul Otuoma on Tuesday appeared at the Ethics and Anti‑Corruption Commission (EACC) Western Regional offices in Bungoma following a summons tied to an ongoing investigation into alleged corruption within the Busia County Government.

Otuoma arrived at the offices around 9:30 am and proceeded to record a statement with investigators as part of preliminary inquiries into the alleged irregularities.

Speaking briefly, the governor said he was ready to cooperate fully with the commission to ensure that the matter is clarified.

The EACC has not publicly disclosed the full details of the allegations, but the inquiry reportedly relates to irregularities valued at about Sh1.4 billion involving county procurement and tender processes.

In August 2025, the EACC arrested six senior county officials in connection with alleged irregular procurement practices, highlighting the seriousness of the ongoing investigation.

Those arrested included County Executive Committee members and senior administrative officers, accused of conflict of interest, irregular procurement, and misappropriation of public funds.

Otuoma’s appearance comes amid increased public scrutiny of governance and accountability in Busia County, where political disputes and service delivery challenges have drawn attention.

The governor’s cooperation with investigators will likely shape the next steps, which may include further interviews, evidence review, and potential referral to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) depending on findings.

At the time of reporting, Otuoma was still engaged with EACC officials, with updates expected as the investigation progresses.
