A court in Johannesburg has ordered the immediate deportation of Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe after finding him guilty of firearm and immigration offences.

A Johannesburg court has ordered the immediate deportation of Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe, the youngest son of Zimbabwe’s late former president Robert Mugabe, after he pleaded guilty to firearm-related and immigration offences linked to a violent incident in South Africa.

Court proceedings heard that the 28-year-old admitted to unlawfully being in the country and to a separate charge involving the pointing of a firearm or firearm-like object during an altercation. The plea formed part of a broader case connected to an incident in February 2026 at a residence in Johannesburg’s Hyde Park area, where a domestic worker was shot and seriously injured.

In that earlier incident, a 23-year-old employee was reportedly shot twice in the back and hospitalised in critical condition. Investigators linked the shooting to Mugabe’s cousin, who later admitted responsibility and was convicted of attempted murder, receiving a custodial sentence of three years. Mugabe himself was not convicted of the shooting but faced related charges stemming from the same chain of events.

Authorities said the firearm involved in the shooting has not been recovered, despite ongoing investigations. Prosecutors further indicated that the case included multiple allegations, ranging from illegal firearm handling to immigration breaches, before being resolved through a plea agreement.

Following sentencing, the court imposed financial penalties and ruled that Mugabe be removed from South Africa without delay. Immigration officials were directed to oversee his transfer and ensure he is escorted out of the country under deportation procedures.

The ruling brings to a close a high-profile case that drew public attention due to Mugabe’s family background and the serious nature of the underlying violent incident.
