Azimio To Challenge Speaker Wetangula's House Leadership Ruling In Court

Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition is now planning to move to court and challenge Speaker Moses Wetangula's ruling on Kenya Kwanza as the majority in the national assembly.

Speaking during a press briefing at the Serena hotel, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka said the ruling was against the law and should not be allowed.

“We are going to court, to go against the ruling of my friend Weta. He is still my friend even if he occasioned disharmony in the country. He knows it. We are ruling against those things, we don’t do that because future generations will look up to you,” Kalonzo stated.

On Thursday afternoon, October 6, Speaker Wetangula ruled out that the President Ruto-led outfit Kenya Kwanza has a majority number of legislators in the house.

According to the Speaker, post-election agreements between Kenya Kwanza and the parties which joined them pushed its membership to 179 MPs against Azimio la Umoja’s 157.

However, he noted that before the general election Azimio la Umoja had 171 MPs against Kenya Kwanza’s 165 MPs.

In his ruling, the Speaker explained that if Azimio was to be considered a political party then it has no elected members in the house under its banner.

He further added that the 14 MPs from UDM, MDG, PAA, and MCCP are legit members of Kenya Kwanza considering the post-election agreement signed.

The speaker also revealed that the Registrar of Political Parties filed responses to his office in regard to membership of the coalitions quite late, which made it difficult for him to verify the report.
