Wiper Democratic Movement leader Kalonzo Musyoka has launched a scathing attack against President William Ruto’s administration over the worsening economic situation, expressing deep empathy for citizens and law enforcement officers who are bearing the brunt of the high cost of living.

Addressing a charged crowd at Kiambu Town in Kiambu County during a political rally, Kalonzo pointed out that even police officers are deeply affected by the current financial hardships.

“Eeh tunaonea huruma sana ndugu zetu wa polisi. Tunajua wengi wao wanaumia tu kama Wakenya wengine. Tunajua kwamba paylip yao inavinyiliwa kama wale wengine,” he stated, noting that officers' salaries are heavily depleted while their children struggle just like everyone else.

In a satirical twist, the opposition co-principal joked that the recent anti-government demonstrations were ironically executed by the police themselves due to their massive deployments. He remarked, “Safari hii saba sa wiki jana polisi pekee yao ndio alienda kwa maandamano. Wewe umewahi kuona polisi ikiandamana?”

Kalonzo went on to urge the public to give a round of applause to the police for taking to the streets on behalf of citizens. He argued that the heavy police presence effectively blocked major roads, particularly around Ruai, which disrupted transport and left motorists stranded out of fear.

Transitioning to the opposition's future plans, Musyoka declared that upcoming demonstrations spearheaded by the younger generation would be formally and systematically organized.

“Lakini maandamano ya vijana itakuwa ikidhimishwa kirasmi,” he announced, signaling a more structured approach to their political agitation against government policies.

The Wiper leader also slammed the state for blocking access to areas around Parliament where Kenyans wanted to pay respects to victims of recent police brutality. He criticized the authorities for refusing to allow citizens to lay flowers at sites where young children were shot during previous demonstrations.

Shifting his focus to the political timeline, Kalonzo issued a bold declaration concerning the next electoral cycle. He asserted that on August 10th of next year, the opposition and the public have a singular objective: to vote the current administration out of power.

“Mwaka ujao tarehe 10 mwezi wa nane sisi tuko na kibarua kimoja ya kupeleka mtu mmoja nyumbani,” he told the cheering crowd.

Musyoka raised serious concerns over escalating insecurity across the country, citing recent violent attacks on prominent opposition leaders. He highlighted that key political figures, including Siaya Governor James Orengo and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, were recently targeted and confronted by armed individuals in Kisumu.

He further detailed other chilling security incidents, including the shooting of Murang'a Governor Irungu Kang'ata’s driver in Nyahururu. Kalonzo also condemned an ambush on a government vehicle belonging to a Deputy County Commissioner (DCC/DCP) in Ol Kalou, questioning how many lives must be put at risk before the state restores order.

Turning his attention to alleged corruption and mismanagement in the energy sector, Kalonzo criticized the government's handling of top parastatal officials. He pointed back to past administrative overhauls at the Kenya Pipeline Company, naming figures like Kipto and former Managing Director Joe Sang.

He raised specific questions regarding the resignation and controversial re-appointments within the ministries, referencing a resignation letter written by an official named Kelo Hasama over fuel cartels. He also questioned the current actions of Ministry of Energy Principal Secretary Alex Wachira regarding the distribution of gas cylinders.

In his concluding remarks, Kalonzo accused President William Ruto of consistently deceiving Kenyans regarding job creation and public appointments, claiming that promised reinstatements have failed to materialize even after several months. He demanded immediate accountability, asking how long the administration will continue to mislead the public while the country faces immense hardships.
