Abandoned Girl-child In Kisii County To Miss Form One
A vulnerable KCPE girl-child candidate in Kisii county may miss to join form one at one of the best schools in the county after her single parent abandoned her with other two siblings.
Edith Nyaboke aged 15 and who scored 353 out of 500 marks may not proceed with her education since she could not afford fees of Ksh. 62,000 at Kereri girls high school.
She appealed for assistance from the area Women Rep, Doris Aburi, MP Obadiah Barongo, Governor Simba Arati, and MCA to realize her dreams of becoming a lawyer.
Speaking to the media in Kisii town amid sobs, Nyaboke narrated tribulations she and her younger brothers went through at the Magena trading center in Bomachoge Borabu.
The mother disappeared in 2012 living them at the mercy of neighbors. She had never communicated with them since then.
Intriguingly, the children did not know their father or grandparents' home.
Alfred Akama, a human rights lobbyist petitioned the area administration and political leadership to intervene, help the girl pursue her education, and provide for her siblings.
The lobbyist condemned the consideration of children who did not deserve bursaries at the expense of the bright needy ones.
He termed the children’s only parent, a ‘bad mother’ who was not conscious of their upbringing and protection.
