For many parents, raising a child is a journey of joy and hurdles. But for Malya Riziki, whose five-year-old son was diagnosed with Hydrocephalus after an accident, that journey became an unseen battle marked by immense emotional strain and social isolation.
Riziki has bravely shared her story on the Hashtag Podcast, detailing what it truly takes to raise a child with a severe disability.
The turning point for the family came when her baby, then just five months old, fell from a double-decker bed. The subsequent diagnosis at the hospital changed the trajectory of their lives forever.
Hydrocephalus is a medical condition defined by the buildup of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in the brain, which in turn causes increased pressure on brain tissues.
This imbalance in the production, flow, or absorption of CSF leads to symptoms that vary with age, including head enlargement in infants and severe headaches, vision problems, and balance issues in older children.
