2025 Wildebeest Migration in Maasai Mara

President William Ruto officially launched the 2025 Great Wildebeest Migration in the Maasai Mara on Thursday. During the event, he highlighted a robust 15 percent growth in tourist arrivals last year and encouraged both local and international visitors to explore Kenya's diverse attractions.
The President expressed optimism for continued tourism growth in the coming years.
The Great Wildebeest Migration is a circulation migration of animals across the vast Serengeti-Mara ecosystem. This ecosystem spans Tanzania's Serengeti National Park and Kenya's Maasai Mara National Reserve.
It is one of the largest and longest terrestrial migrations on earth, a synchronized natural event of massive scale and danger, and a display of life, death, and survival.
The animals constantly seek fresh grazing and water, following the seasonal rainfall patterns. Their survival instinct guides them along an ancient route.
The migration is full of dramatic moments, especially the river crossings. The Mara River, infested with crocodiles, presents a formidable obstacle, leading to thrilling and often heartbreaking scenes as thousands of animals attempt to cross.
While it's a year-round event, the most famous and sought-after period to witness the wildebeest in the Maasai Mara is typically from July to October, when the herds cross the Mara River.
