The widow of the late Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno, Nayianoi Ntutu Ng’eno, delivered an emotional tribute at a requiem mass held for the six victims of the fatal helicopter crash in Nandi County. The service, attended by family, friends and leaders, took place at a church in Karen, Nairobi, as the nation continues to mourn the sudden loss of the lawmaker and others who died on February 28.
Standing before a gathering of mourners, Nayianoi reflected on her life with Ng’eno, describing the depth of their bond that began in their youth and grew stronger through marriage and public life. She spoke of how he made life feel beautiful and full of promise, and how losing him has left a profound and painful void in her heart.
Nayianoi recalled the laughter, shared dreams and everyday moments they treasured, portraying her late husband as not only a partner but a guiding presence in her life. She emphasised that even in his absence, the foundation of what they built together remains strong and will continue to influence their family’s journey forward.
Ng’eno, who was serving his third term as MP, died when the helicopter he was travelling in crashed in Chepkiep Forest, Mosop Constituency, with five others on board. The victims also included the pilot and members of his team.
President William Ruto joined leaders and citizens in paying tribute to the late MP at the family’s home in Karen, acknowledging Ng’eno’s contributions to national development and leadership in Parliament. The President said the government would support the bereaved families and oversee funeral arrangements.
Members of Parliament also paused their proceedings to attend memorial services and honour Ng’eno’s life and service. National leaders described him as a committed representative whose work had a lasting impact on his constituents and the broader community.
Ng’eno’s family has pledged to carry forward his legacy of service, unity and community development, saying the work he cared about will continue in his memory.
The funeral programme includes cultural rites, with a night vigil planned on Thursday and a final burial ceremony set for Friday, March 6, at Emurua Dikirr Primary School, where thousands are expected to pay their respects.
Social media and public condolences have poured in for Nayianoi and her two young daughters, with many expressing sympathy and support for the family as they navigate the loss of a husband, father and public servant.
