Naiyanoi Ntutu Ng'eno has been endorsed by family and society members to run for Emurua Dikirr seat.
Political leaders and residents in Narok County have endorsed Naiyanoi Ng’eno, the widow of the late Johana Ng'eno, to contest the upcoming parliamentary by-election in Emurua Dikirr Constituency. The endorsement comes weeks after the lawmaker died in a helicopter crash in February 2026.
The late MP had represented Emurua Dikirr in the National Assembly and was serving his third term after being re-elected during the 2022 Kenyan general election. His death created a vacancy in the constituency, triggering preparations for a by-election and political consultations among local leaders.
During mourning gatherings and community meetings in the constituency, several leaders publicly backed Naiyanoi as the most suitable candidate to succeed her late husband. Supporters say she understands the constituency’s priorities and can continue the development projects initiated during Ng’eno’s tenure.
Naiyanoi comes from a prominent political family in Narok County and is the daughter of businessman Livingstone Ole Ntutu. Her family links to influential leaders in the region have fueled speculation that she could mount a strong campaign if she formally declares her interest in the parliamentary seat.
Speaking during memorial gatherings, the widow expressed gratitude to residents for their support following her husband’s death. She pledged to remain close to the people of Emurua Dikirr and continue supporting community initiatives started during his leadership.
Local leaders backing her bid say the endorsement reflects the community’s desire for continuity in leadership and development programs that had been launched under the late MP. They argue that her familiarity with constituency affairs places her in a strong position to represent residents.
Residents who attended the funeral and subsequent meetings also voiced emotional support for the family, noting that the late legislator maintained close ties with the community during his time in office. Many said backing his widow would help preserve his legacy and ongoing projects.
Ng’eno had built a reputation as a vocal politician and advocate for residents of Narok County. In Parliament, he served on several committees and was actively involved in initiatives aimed at improving education, infrastructure, and social welfare in the constituency.
His sudden death in the helicopter crash shocked the region and prompted tributes from leaders across the political divide. National and county leaders attended his burial, describing him as a committed leader who strongly represented his constituents.
The upcoming by-election for the Emurua Dikirr parliamentary seat is expected to attract several aspirants as political parties prepare to field candidates. However, Naiyanoi’s endorsement by sections of local leadership could position her as an early front-runner.
Political analysts say the coming weeks will determine whether the widow officially enters the race and which political party she might use to seek the seat. Party nominations and alliances are expected to shape the competitiveness of the contest.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission is expected to announce the by-election timetable after the parliamentary vacancy is formally declared, paving the way for a closely watched political contest in Narok County.
