WHO IS DAVID MWAURE WAIHIGA?

David Mwaure Waihiga is a Kenyan lawyer and ordained minister. He is best known as the Managing Partner and Founder of Mwaure and Mwaure Waihiga and Co. Advocates and has more than 35 years of legal experience.

FAMILY

Mwaure is married to Anna Ngibuini Mwaure.  Anna is a Lady Justice appointed in Kenya's Employment and Labour Relations Court. The 2022 presidential hopeful has three children, Waihiga Mwaure, Lil Gathoni Mwaure, and Ngibuini Mwaure.

Unfortunately, Mwaure’s child, Lil Gathoni Mwaure, passed away on 11 April 2022, aged 32.

EDUCATION

After graduating from high school, he joined the University of Nairobi, where he studied and graduated with a degree in Law. He later did his master's degree in Leadership at the International Leadership University. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in the same.

POLITICAL CAREER

Mwaure wanted to vie for the presidency seat in 2013 but dropped out and ran for other elective seats, which he lost.

In 2006, Mwaure Waihiga founded the Agano Party. The political party advocates for the radical transformation of Kenya into a modern developed nation, a servant-leadership of vision, integrity, righteousness, professionalism, and excellence.

However, the party did not field a presidential candidate in the 2007 Kenya general elections.

In 2011, Mwaure used his Agano Party to contest for the Kamukunji parliamentary seat. However, the seat fell vacant after a ruling by Kenya’s high court that nullified the election of the MP Simon Mbugua, citing malpractices during the 2007 elections.

Before the by-elections of 2011, Mwaure had earlier (25 October 2010) announced his intention to run for Kenya’s presidency during the 2013 elections which later he dropped out and opted to run for the gubernatorial race.

Mwaure got cleared to run for the Governor of Lamu County in 2013. He preferred Lamu because he had a law firm in the county, had practiced law there for many years, and had been active in community social initiatives. But unfortunately, he lost the gubernatorial race.

In 2016, he applied to become a Supreme Court Judge in Kenya and was interviewed by the Judicial Service Commission. However, the JSC did not consider him for the position.

He also applied for a Court of Appeal Judge in 2022 but never got the job. In 2021, Waihiga took another shot at becoming an elected official in Kenya.

His Agano Party endorsed him to contest for the Nairobi Gubernatorial seat that had fallen vacant after the dismissal of Governor Mike Mbuvi. However, the race did not go to the ballot after months of court cases.

In 2022, David announced his intentions to run for Kenya’s presidency for a second time. His party endorsed him to become its presidential flagbearer. In June 2022, Kenya’s independent election body cleared Mwaure to run for the presidency on 9 August 2022.
