United Opposition team Godfrey Osotsi, James Orengo, Babu Owino and Edwin Sifuna, records statement at Parliament Police Station following assault in Kisumu

Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi has recorded a statement at the Parliament Police Station in Nairobi following a violent attack against him in Kisumu.

The incident occurred on April 8, 2026, at a restaurant in Kisumu, where the senator was reportedly confronted and assaulted by a group of individuals believed to be organised.

Osotsi told investigators that the attack was premeditated and politically motivated, insisting that it was not a random act of violence but a targeted assault.

He called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the suspected ringleader, saying those responsible must be held accountable to deter similar incidents.

The senator was accompanied by allies during the statement recording, with his team claiming they possess crucial evidence linking key suspects to the attack.

They warned that they could pursue private prosecution if authorities fail to take swift action against those implicated.

Siaya Governor James Orengo criticised the pace of investigations, accusing law enforcement agencies of failing to act despite suspects allegedly being identified.

Orengo said the alleged ringleader had been seen at the scene before the attack but had neither been summoned nor arrested.

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna also faulted authorities, warning that failure to act on available evidence would undermine the rule of law.

Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o condemned the attack, describing it as criminal and detrimental to the region’s stability and economic activities.

The incident has drawn widespread condemnation from leaders across the political divide, many terming it a threat to democratic space and political tolerance.

Police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing, with pressure mounting on security agencies to review CCTV footage and fast-track arrests.

The case has reignited concerns over rising cases of political violence in Kenya as the country moves closer to the 2027 General Election.
