United opposition team led a series of campaigns in Nakuru county

Leaders allied to the United Opposition coalition held a series of political rallies across parts of Nakuru County on Saturday, 28 February 2026, intensifying grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The delegation was led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and included Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua, Fred Matiang’i, Eugene Wamalwa and Justin Muturi, among other allied figures.

The team made stops in Ahero area within Bahati Constituency, Maili Kumi in Bahati, Subukia Town in Subukia Constituency and later addressed residents in Nyahururu.

At Ahero, leaders told residents they had listened to their concerns and pledged to remain united until what they described as the establishment of a new administration responsive to citizens’ wishes.

Speaking at Maili Kumi, the opposition figures declared that a united political front would deliver what they termed an alternative and more accountable government. They thanked residents for resilience amid prevailing economic challenges.

In Subukia Town, the coalition reiterated its commitment to national reforms, saying the movement remained focused on constitutional processes and democratic change.

During his address, Gachagua also spoke about the helicopter crash in Nandi County that claimed the life of Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Kipyegon Ng’eno earlier in the day.

He acknowledged the legislator’s death, describing it as a tragic and untimely loss to his constituents and the country. He conveyed condolences to the family and residents of Emurua Dikirr following the fatal crash.

The helicopter went down in the Chepkiep area of Mosop Sub-county, killing all six people on board, according to authorities. Investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.

Gachagua called for a thorough and transparent probe into the crash, urging aviation authorities to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Other opposition leaders also referenced the tragedy during their remarks, observing a moment of reflection at some of the rally stops.

Kalonzo Musyoka urged unity among leaders and supporters, stating that sustained grassroots mobilisation would be critical in the period leading to 2027.

Martha Karua focused on governance reforms and electoral accountability, emphasising the need to safeguard democratic institutions.

Fred Matiang’i addressed economic management and public service delivery, telling supporters that policy reforms would form the backbone of any alternative administration.

Eugene Wamalwa highlighted national unity and the protection of public resources, framing the opposition’s campaign as centred on transparency and constitutionalism.

Justin Muturi underscored the role of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission in ensuring credible elections, calling for vigilance in voter registration processes.

Across all stops, the coalition maintained a consistent message of unity, resilience and preparation for the next electoral cycle.

Organisers reported significant turnouts in the various towns visited, with supporters gathering along major roads and town centres to hear the leaders speak.

The opposition team indicated that similar public engagement forums would continue in other counties in the coming weeks as part of a broader national outreach programme.
