Police in Suneka, Kisii County, have launched investigations into the deaths of two young girls whose bodies were discovered in a banana plantation near their homes.

The victims, reported to be PP2 pupils, disappeared while playing in their neighbourhood before their bodies were later found hidden inside sacks in the plantation.

According to preliminary reports, the children were found after residents and family members launched a search following their disappearance.

Police officers from Suneka Police Station visited the scene and began collecting evidence as they sought to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

Investigators are treating the incident as a suspected murder case, with reports indicating that the two girls may have been defiled before they were killed.

The bodies were moved to a mortuary for post-mortem examination, which is expected to help determine the exact cause of death and provide further evidence for the investigation.

Authorities have not released details of any suspects as detectives continue with efforts to identify and arrest those responsible.

A suspected container believed to be linked to the incident was reportedly recovered near the scene, with forensic analysis expected to establish its relevance to the case.

Government officials and security officers visited the area as residents expressed shock over the deaths of the two children.

The incident has sparked concerns among residents over child safety, with calls for increased vigilance and swift action against those involved in crimes targeting minors.

Police have urged members of the public with information that could assist investigations to report to authorities.

Investigations remain ongoing as detectives work to piece together the events leading to the deaths of the two girls and bring the perpetrators to justice.
