Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua joined hundreds of young Kenyans in Nyeri County today for a voter registration drive under the youth-led Tuko Kadi initiative. The campaign, targeting primarily Gen Z and first-time voters, aims to boost registration ahead of the 2027 general election.
The event took place near IEBC offices in Karatina town, where attendees verified their details and collected voter cards. Gachagua praised the youth for their energy, integrity, and active participation in shaping the nation’s future, calling them “incorruptible” and capable of driving meaningful change through their votes.
Accompanied by his wife, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, and their two sons, Gachagua encouraged all young Kenyans to register en masse and exercise their democratic rights, framing voter participation as a tool to hold leaders accountable.
The Tuko Kadi movement has gained traction nationwide, combining grassroots mobilisation with social media trends to make registration engaging and culturally relevant. IEBC officials reported growing youth registration numbers, highlighting the significance of early mobilisation ahead of next year’s polls.
Observers note that youth participation has historically lagged, making the current enthusiasm noteworthy. Civic activists and political analysts view the campaign as a potential game-changer in shaping voter demographics and influencing electoral outcomes.
Gachagua’s appearance reinforced the initiative’s message that empowered and organised young voters can play a decisive role in Kenya’s democratic future, strengthening calls for responsible leadership and active civic engagement.
